The SCS community mourns the loss of an iconic person in Fraser Valley Christian High/SCS’s history. Chris Hamming, an original staff member of FVCH, passed away Thursday morning after a valiant battle with the effects of Polymyositis. Chris taught 1000’s of FVCH students in his 37 years. An alumni recently described meeting him decades after she had been in his classes and “he still knew my name, remembered what I was good at, as well as the names and interests of my 3 sisters”. Along with Math and Science 8, Chris was a champion of FVCH’s grade 8 Outdoor Education where his invite to the “morning dip and run” is legendary amongst both students and staff. He is remembered as the staff member who declared everyday–no matter how gloomy–“a beautiful day”.
Chris’s retirement was a rich one where he has worked diligently and sharing his passions at Science World and the Tynehead hatchery where he was vital to their education program, partnering with many of SCS’s classes. Chris loved creation and its Creator. He engaged life to its fullest.
Please keep his family, Henrietta, Jeremey, Kevin, Bryce, and Janine in your prayers.
