Grad Rafting Trip Recap (with video)

Becoming Fully Alive in God’s Story

As I was rafting down the Thompson River in a raft filled with first time rafters, their “newness” awakened me to the novelty and exhilaration of a first time experience. The unknown, the nervousness, the adrenalin rush, being doused by a huge wave, the power of the water, the power of the wind, the power of much needed teamwork and communication amongst fellow rafters, the majestic prancing of a brown bear, the uninterested but equally unique crowding of big horn sheep, the watchful eye of an eagle perched on a rock 15 ft away from us, or the abundance of salmon running up the river, all loudly screamed to me “I am fully alive right now”. I had to be fully present to the next step in front of me…there wasn’t too much thinking about the past or what’s way ahead of me…there were moments of stillness…and then moments of getting “on with it” again. I also had the privilege of getting to know more of the grads…getting to know them by name…and interestingly, another way of becoming more fully alive in their story….to be known.

As much as being gone from “all the work” that could have been done, my experience on the trip allowed me to “discover another hidden wholeness”.
