Engaging God’s world in the servant way of Jesus provides students in Grade 2 a framework to be the hands, heart, feet and mind of Christ. Surrey’s Food Bank allows SCS ‘local community opportunity’ to package food, sort cans, and hand out fresh fruit and vegetables. For the past six years ‘FOOD BANK FRIDAY’ has been a SCS Primary Campus collaborative effort to meet the growing needs of the Surrey Food Bank.

UGM (Union Gospel Mission) located in New Westminster, provides food, clothing and shelter for clients in our communities. Thanksgiving Day is often a time where many people feel disconnected with family, or in a broader sense, searching for a place to belong. Grade 2B has provided about 50 homemade apple pies for their Thanksgiving meal. We, along with our buddy class, spend a morning being a community making these pies. Our goal is that students see the needs of others, but more importantly, actively take part in providing a sense of belonging. Pint sized pie bakers for the UGM is a Fall highlight.
