In April of 2008 a group of high school students at Surrey Christian School decided to leave a legacy; something our leadership class tries to do every year. Their legacy was to build a cafe that would raise funds for athletics at our school and our daughter school in Sierra Leone. The thought was to make hot chocolate on a stove and sell it for $1/cup. Fast forward 3 years and the small dream has become a true reality with volunteer students running the cafe as a part of the leadership class, our business class building a business plan and making company projections, interns doing our marketing research, purchasing and income statements and being forced to hire a part time person (community member) to keep everything running…we are finally at a point where we are running a true cafe and learning real business skills. WOW!! So what now you ask? Starting a side business of a coffee service out of our cafe as well as a catering company for business meetings. Who knows, maybe the Falcon’s Cafe will be serving you someday. Thanks to our many volunteers that built and run our cafe.
Our goals are:
1. Provide a safe place for community through food
2. Provide healthy food options
3. Provide an external source of income for athletics and Sierra Leone
4. Provide educational opportunities through true business education
